"If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." -Marcus Tullius Cicero
As part of the Oceanside Public Library's Community Health and Well-Being initiative we are excited to offer our community a seed library at each of our Library locations! Seeds are available at the Civic Center, Mission Branch, and READS Learning Center. Take seeds to plant in your garden. Please limit three seed packets a month per family. Feel free to donate seeds as well! If you are interested in donating seeds, please leave them in the donations drawer of the seed library. Available seeds change due to growing seasons, donations, and availability. Check back to see what new seeds are waiting!
Seed grant provided by Native Seeds SEARCH and the San Diego Audubon Society Native Seed Library Program.
For planting instructions, visit the San Diego Gardener Vegetable Planting Guide and the San Diego Seed Company.
Thank you for your interest in donating seeds! You can grow some of your seeds to flower and collect dry seeds to return to the Library for another community member to plant! Return seeds in the envelopes provided at your nearest Oceanside Library location.
The Oceanside Seed Library is currently accepting commercially packaged, open-pollinated or heirloom seeds. These seeds will be "true-to-type" if saved and grown again.
Donated GMO or Hybrid seeds will be distributed outside the Oceanside Seed Library. (A donation form is not needed for these donations.) These seeds may not produce plants exactly like the parent plant. They may produce something somewhat close or very different. They can be grown for food, but not for saving in the Oceanside Seed Library.
