1000 Books Before Kindergarten is based upon evidence from the American Academy of Pediatrics that reading regularly with young children stimulates brain development and strengthens parent-child relationships. Reading with your child will build language, literacy, and social-emotional skills that last a lifetime.

  • Babies, toddlers and preschoolers can participate, ages 0-6.
  • Come into the Library after logging in your reading to redeem your incentive.
  • Enjoy reading books from home, in the Library, and at storytimes. Reading the same book multiple times counts too! One book read a night is 365 books in a year. That's 730 books in two years and 1095 books in three years.
  • The key is perseverance. Make it a fun routine!

Your child's learning begins with you. Help your child get ready to read by doing these simple activities together.

  • Read and share books
  • Talk and tell stories
  • Sing songs
  • Encourage writing skills starting with scribbles and crayons
  • Provide plenty of playtime

The basis for a child's future success is laid in the first few years of life. The involvement of parents and caregivers is important to this early development. Young children fall in love with learning and reading when it invites discovery, delight, and self-confidence.
